The two major types are the traditional "cheer on the sports" and competitive cheerleading. Usually, the Division 1 (D1) schools (for this, I'm referring to all colleges whose football programs compete in D1) go the traditional route, and smaller schools, if they choose to have cheerleading programs, have a more balanced choice, although I do not know how many actually compete regularly. Anyways, I cheered at the University of Texas. We were a pretty traditional school (I cheered competitively in high school). The cheerleading squad wasn't nece sarily at thesportslevel of effort and practice, but Devon Travis Jersey we did some fairly athletic things. I was on the coed squad, but there was also an all-girls squad and a dance squad called "Pom squad."People may enjoy cheerleading for the feeling of camaraderie that goes along with any group activity. Some may enjoy it for the athletic feats, which are similar Russell Martin Jersey to gymnastics. Some even do it for the pride of being on the squad (this is more a sociated with girls). Some want to challenge themselves and conquer something they enjoy.More from Quora:|As cheerleaders, our job was to perform stunts such as.Our other job was to pump up the crowd by trying to lead chants and stuff, although the crowd usually handles that pretty well on their own.Stunting for the guys obviously requires arm strength and a fair amount of balance, while for girls it requires a humongous amount of body control and body strength. At some places, girls are required to stay under weight limits (usually around 120 or so I think), and for stunting most girls are fairly short. If a girl is too heavy, even if she is on the team, the guys will find it harder to stunt with her and she usually won't be able to pull as many moves in the air. This can lead to being treated a little like a pariah, which I've seen happen, albeit in a subtle way.At practice, we'll usually go over any movements to routines we may have (I still perform the cheerleader movements and timing to the fight song rather than going along with the rest of Roberto Alomar Jersey the crowd) and then practice both stunting and tumbling. As I alluded to above, we continually work to perform harder and better looking stunts while being safe. Tumbling is as seen in gymnastics and I personally usually found it thrilling to be able to practice and flip even if I couldn't perform the harder stuff. Generally, tumbling takes a back seat to performing a stunt. On gameday, you show up to the stadium early and spend time practicing and warming up. We then went out to different parts of campus to hold pep rallies before the games and led cheers in front of alumni and students. We smile and act happy, maybe chat with a guest or two, and take pictures with anyone who asks. Then we put on a short pep rally and head back to the stadium. Final preparations are made and we head out onto the field and get ready to lead out the football team. At Texas, we ran flags in front of them when they ran out. Then we got to our place on the sidelines and led cheers and performed stunts. At the quarter, we would switch our place on the field if we were at home to get near every corner of the Roberto Osuna Jersey stadium. The opposing team's cheer squad was put next to their team and didn't move around. It was a great joy to be able to be on the sidelines rooting for my Longhorns while also being a cheerleader. After the game we stayed for the alma mater and then went to the locker room and went home.In addition to gameday and practice, we also were asked to show up to events that requested cheerleaders and to hold summer camps dedicated to cheerleading. We were supposed to be genial and good amba sadors of the university. At UT, they asked us when in uniform to never take a picture with someone holding alcohol in it, and we were supposed to ask them to put it down. Also, we were told to never wear red (the color of the Oklahoma Sooners, our rivals) to any event a sociated with UT or to practice.Outside of university events, we generally hung out with each other and were friendly with each other. Some people mainly hung out with cheerleaders and some only hung out occasionally, but everyone was cool.It can be easy or hard depending on how you work at it and how naturally gifted you are. Some girls had a hard time staying thin and some were just naturally awesome. Some guys were naturally strong and some were weaker. I'm a fairly diminutive guy, so I had real struggles with strength, and had to work hard for any gains I made. I worried about not being strong enough to lift girls and didn't want to let any down by dropping them. Almost everyone I stunted with or who helped me get stronger encouraged me and was supportive of me so the atmosphere felt like a huge caring family. When I was cheerleading with them I was happy to participate with everyone. Josh Donaldson Jersey I am glad that I chose to cheer for UT and I would do it all over again.Anyways, different people; different experiences. I certainly can't speak from the viewpoint of a female cheerleader, but I hope I answered most of what you wish to know.
